Converting from a Powerglide to TH350 column shift with a kit from Chevy 2 Only.

When we replaced the 307 motor and Powerglide in my son's 68 Nova with a 4-bolt 350 and TH350 transmission, he wanted to keep the column shifter. So we had to jump through a few hoops to get there.

Here's the stock PG column linkage as seen from the top.

And from the bottom.

This is the kit (part number 01036) I got from Chevy 2 Only. I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Joe (the owner) and he was unbelievably helpful.

Joe also suggested that I'd need this adapter from a 62-66 Chevy II. He shipped the stuff out Next Day Air (at my request) and I had it by noon the following day (from Kentucky to Utah.)

After I removed the old PG linkage, I had to replace the rubber grommet in the arm on the steering column. The one with the larger inside diameter hole is the one that's needed.

Then I installed the fitting for the shift rod.

Next I removed the original TH350 shift arm which left me with...

...nothing. Then I needed to install the kit's shift arm...

...which had to be drilled out slightly to fit on over the threaded and specially shaped shaft on the transmission.

There's a slight dogleg in the shift arm that needs to be installed with the bend facing away from the transmission.

Looking up at the steering column's shift arm, you can see where the long rod will be inserted.

And here's the rod and shift arm installed at the transmission end.

This is shown in the "Park" position. I tried adjusting things there, but had much more success when I moved the tranny shifter arm and the column shifter to the 1st gear position and then adjusted the shift rod.

Here you can see the rod leading up from the transmission to the steering column arm.

And the rod and coupling as seen from above before trimming.

This has worked flawlessly. We installed it with stock manifolds, but it should also work with headers, since that's what the kit is originally designed for.

And I can't say enough good about Joe and Chevy 2 Only. They're great people to work with and are very, very knowledgeable.
