Installing the seat covers [3]

The passenger seat was in pretty good shape. The only thing I had to be careful of was getting the plastic edges under the metal retainers. This is the way the front seat cushions are fastened at the edges instead of using hog rings.

You can see the plastic strip in the upper right hand corner of this picture.

When I got to the driver's seat, I found that all but 4 of the spring wires were broken. I tell ya, people gotta quit jumping into their cars! I'd read about some restorers who had welded the wires together but that idea didn't appeal to me.

What I did was head over to a local upholsery shop and buy a 3 foot length of the spring wires. They looked like they would fit under an entire bench seat. Then I just about broke my hands and cutters snipping of a length that would fit in the Camaro frame. Voila! Brand new springs.

After that it was repetition of the previous steps to complete the rest of the job. Here's the finished product waiting to be installed in the car.

I don't think it looks too bad. Much better than I expected things to turn out the first time.
