Heber City, Utah. June 22, 2002

This was a charity car show put on by Wasatch Chevys, a local Tri-5 club. About 200 cars participated.

To start off, we have a Pepto-pink 25 Ford "phonebooth" flatbed truck with a blown smallblock motor. This guy was one of several entrants from Idaho.

Here's a 30 Chev 4dr sedan with a desert water bag on the radiator. I remember my grandparents using these bags to cool water while on trips.

And another 30 Chevy. This one isn't quite as stock as the 4dr.

This 30 Ford Tudor has a matching trailer and took one of the top Rod awards.

Here's another 30 Ford...a 5-window coupe with a very different paint scheme.

This is something you don't see everyday...unless you own a 30 Nash. Check out the straight-8 motor, wooden artillery wheels and the antimacassar on the back seat.

Here's one 31 Ford sedan...

...and another one. Both are super clean rods.

And a few 32 Ford highboy roadsters...

...this is a full-fendered fiberglass replica. I spent a while talking with the owner...who built it himself. Real nice guy.

This 32 highboy will be given away over the 4th of July weekend at a big car show in Logan, Utah. I plan to be there just to buy a raffle ticket.

Another sorta unusual rod, a 34 Plymouth convertible.

And a humpback 36 Chevy sedan. One of the Street Machine award winners.

This 36 Ford 5-window's paint can only be described as "tittie pink."

A 37 Ford "Club Cab" with Chromalusion paint, wild flames and pro-street chassis and motor.

This 37 Tudor is a little less radical. Nice, though.

But speaking of radical, this 39 Ford roadster (a phantom) is really something else. It's powered by a TPI Chevy smallblock.

A Pink Panther 40 Ford standard coupe.

This 41 Ford woody was given away a couple of years ago at the Logan show. The owner keeps bringing it back to show it. Really cool.

More strange iron. A 41 Packard 4dr sedan, lowered, smoothed and with a hood that looks like you could land F-16s on it.

This is the first of 3 fat-fendered machines that remind me of Easter eggs that were dipped in different colored dye. This 46 Chevy is robin's-egg blue...

...the 46 Ford coupe is chartreuse...

...and the 48 Ford is salmon. I dunno.

Here's a 48 Pontiac lowrider. It's really pretty tastefully done.

This was one of my dream cars when I was a teenager. A 50 Chevy 2dr hardtop with a 283 V8. I think it might still be one of my dream cars.

Here's a 50 Ford that's serious about going fast with its blown big-block motor.

Another 50 Ford, this one's a pickup with a chopped top and a very low stance.

A classic 50 Merc "Kustom": Chopped top, fender skirts, pancaked hood, frenched headlights and grille, lakes pipes, Appleton spotlights and 58 Caddy hubcaps. What more could a kid want in 1959?

This 50 Packard gives a whole new meaning to the word, "tubbed".

Here's another pickup with a chopped top, a 51 GMC.

And something you don't see at every car show or cruise: a 1956 Citroen Traction Avant (loosely translated: front-wheel drive.) I don't think the garnet metallic paint was a factory option, though.

This 56 T-Bird was parked next to me. I chatted a little with the folks who own it. Turns out that they're neighbors of my friend who owns the 68 Elky. Small world.

A super clean 64 Impala with a 409 motor. One of the cruiser award winners.

I followed this 66 Dodge Dart pro streeter into the show. He could hardly get thru the lawn without hanging up on his wheelie bars.

Big ol' Mopar motor, though with a pair of 4 barrels on a hi-rise manifold.

Here's our 67 Camaro RS/SS with Vortec 355 and Tremec 5-speed. I get it to show a little better each time out.

And another 67 Camaro...this one has a 383 motor and very nice-looking grey tweed interior.

The kids were all drooling over this 67 Mustang Shelby 500. They must have seen "Gone in 60 Seconds" too many times.

Here's it's 428 motor with dual quads.

This 67 Olds Cutlass convert was very, very clean.

So was the 68 Nova SS. I never found the owner to see what he has under the hood.

This HAS to be the brightest 69 Firebird I've ever seen. The camera didn't even like taking pics of its paint.

A 74 DeTomaso Pantera. It won one of the special sponsor's awards.

I liked this 77 Impala 2dr. Not your everyday cruiser, but pretty cool, nonetheless.

And finally, an 81 El Camino that was trailered into the show. It has a ZZ3 crate motor with a 4-speed tranny and brand-new black paint that looked deep enough to fall into.
