The cockpit is just a little cramped and if I remember correctly, Thompson was a pretty big guy. He must really have had to squeeze himself in and out. The throttle and clutch pedals are about 6 inches higher than the seat, so it couldn't have been all that comfortable. I heard some oldtimers saying that Thompson really hated that car and was not happy about climbing in and out of it.
