The Chevy Asylum Projects: 1983 Camaro Z-28
I bought this car in 1996 and then realized that it was pretty much beat to hell. I guess I let my emotions get the best of me. It wasn't the best purchase I'd even made. But it was kinda fun.
Then in February 1998, I had a little problem with it. After changing carburetors, there was a teensy little fire in the
engine compartment....burned the whole top of then motor off...bummer. Then it became known as the Kentucky Fried Camaro.
When I first looked at the motor I didn't think it was too bad...just a few burned wires and
some scorching here and there
Then I looked a little more closely and saw that most of the wiring harnesses were just strands of wire...and that shapeless mass in the back?
That used to be the distributor. I decided that I didn't want to attempt a complete underhood re-wiring job on a car that was well past its expiration date.
The KFC left a month or so after the fire. It was donated to Granger High School in West Valley City, Utah, for their
auto mechanics' program. I wish it a peaceful afterlife.
