11/20/99. One of the problems that persisted was blowing coolant out the filler neck of the radiator.
So we're gonna to deal with that right about now.
The first order of business was to yank the old 2-row radiator out.
Then the fan came off.
Then the brand-new Modine 3-row radiator went in.
Then the Flex-A-Lite BlackMagic fan was fastened to the top and bottom of the radiator.
It looks like I'm gonna have a little trouble closing the hood unless I trim those threaded rods.
This fan has its own temperature sensor and adjustment to determine when it turns on and off.
We'll find out how effective it is...maybe when the snow stops falling outside.
Here it is with the mounting rods trimmed off and the wiring routed thru a wire conduit.
So far it seems to cool pretty well...but it's winter, too.
We'll have to see if we need an manual switch for it.
The Hurst V-Matic shifter turned out to be a piece of junk, so I replaced it with another Hurst product,
(don't ask me why), the Pro-Matic II. Actually I have one of these in the 80 Elky and it's a pretty good
ratchet shifter. This one is much more pleasant to use and makes slamming shifts a HECK of a lot of fun.
Alas, all good things come to an end. After coronary bypass surgery (that didn't go very well) I wasn't able to work for over a year. Selling the Pumkin Camaro was one of the things that kept us afloat. I got more out of it
then I had invested and I probably had more fun building this car than any of the others. I really hated to see it go, but without the cars as rolling savings accounts, I hate to think what would have happened.
