Interior Modifications

07/01/2000. Here's the back seat area. I decided to put bucket seats in front and rear, so I got rid of the old back seat.

We made a pattern and started cutting the hardboard.

This is a test fit of the rear bulkhead.

Then I cut some holes for speakers. Kinda looks like the makins of a two-holer outhouse.

This looks like a roll of aluminum foil that got outta control, but it's the Flex-a-Lite insulation that's going on the back of the bulkhead.

Then I put the firewall into place and mounted the 2 6x9 4-way Kenwood speakers.

There had been quite a lengthy discussion on the Nova mailing list about whether I should cut the dash to mount the head unit.

After a few people threatened drastic action, I decided to mount the unit in the glove compartment. Here's the support panel being test fitted.

I painted and mounted the support panel and slid the Pioneer Premier 310 CD unit into place. Looks alright. Sounds AWESOME.

I also painted the inside of the glove compartment door, cuz it was pretty yucky. That part looks fine, but it appears that I have more finish work to do.

I couldn't think of anything to do with the radio faceplate, so I glued a layer of aluminum foil behind it. It's not the cleanest solution, but it'll work for a temporary one.

(07/06/00) Then I used some spray-in insulation to seal the edges of the glovebox and around the rear bulkhead.

That stuff is great and it expands to fill the areas you can't reach...and some areas (ok, a lot of areas) you don't want it in, too.

Here's the bulkhead after I trimmed the excess insulation off. It was kinda messy before this pic was taken.

After trimming and painting the insulation, it's not too bad. At least for the inside of a glovebox.

And the bulkhead got a coat of paint, too. Looks a little more complete, even if it will be under some sort of carpet or fabric.

(08/13/00) After searching for a while, I finally found a radio delete plate on e-bay. Turns out that the seller lives 25 miles from me. I won the bid on Saturday, drove to his house and met him and his lovely wife on Sunday. A great couple of folks. Brought the plate back and installed it right away. Looks a lot cleaner now.

(August 01) I ended up selling the Grape to a nice young man who promised to give it a good home. This was shortly after we had bought a new house and had too many cars and not enough places to put them. I hated to do it, but when he came to me with cash in his hand (he'd been after me to sell it to him for a long time) I couldn't refuse.

I hope they are happy together. I still miss the Grape.
