Born on the 4th of July!

Something to ponder: When I started it up it ran like shit...then I pulled the distributor cap off.

Then I noticed the the rotor button was completely missing. I don't have a clue how that happened, nor how it even managed to run at all that way.

Another little piece of advise: Make sure the power lead is connected back up to the spark box before trying to use it.

And proper setting of the valve lash is essential to getting compression in the cylinders.

Here it is in the driveway after the shakedown run around the block: July 4th, 1999.

There was a WHOLE lot less leakage this time compared to the El Camino. Musta been that whole tube of RTV that I used when I was putting it back together.

It still needs some tuning...and I'll be installing the air/fuel gauge to help with the tuning. Stay tuned.

OK...Here's the Air/Fuel gauge. I used an AutoMeter single G-body pod, Jeg's part number 105-10401, $21.99.

The gauge is an Intellitronix Air/Fuel analog bar gauge, Summit part number ITC-TH7009, $29.95

There are only 3 wires, power, ground and signal. I extended the wires, hooked up the ground, and then wired the power lead to the Ignition connector on the fuse box.

Then I spliced the signal wire into the lead for the O2 sensor...fired it up and it worked as advertised...wow!

This should help tune the carb and get it past the smog nazis.

Here it is in August 99 at a car show. No trophies, but I'm very proud to show it off.

It sure gets a lot of admiring glances and then a double take when they look at the spec sheet that lists the 406 motor!
