Removing the 305

The hood's off and it's time to get started.

I took it to a shop to have it steam cleaned before starting the motor swap.

The guy sprayed it down with degreaser first and let it soak for a while.

Then he cleaned the entire underside with the steam cleaner.

This should avoid tracking too much grease into the house during the transplant.

It's up on jackstands so we can drain fluids and disconnect things underneath.

I had a lot of invaluable help from Dave McLelland of Nova List fame.

Here's the motor as we're about to start the disconnection process.

We found that the air conditioning system was completely empty of Freon, so we just disconnected the lines and moved them out of the way. We'll convert to R-134a when it goes back together.

This is how the day's work ended (a few other things got in the way). Most of the connections on the top side are removed and marked (with waterproof pen!) and the bottom side is disconnected except for the tranny mount.

Ok...About a week later, the leveler is chained up to bolts in the intake manifold.

Voila! It's out. The only casualty was the downstream A.I.R. tube.

Now all I gotta do is get all these parts off this motor and onto the other one. Oh...and a little cleaning wouldn't hurt, either.

Looks like some cleaning and painting is in order in here, too. You can see the little pieces of tape with labels for where all the connectors go. Let's hope they end up in the right places.

Looks a lot nicer after some cleaning and painting...installation is getting closer.
