The 406 motor (continued)

Ok. The bottom end is together and the heads are on. Now all we need is to paint the block, add the lifters and pushrods and maybe just a couple more things.

All done. It's ready to install in the car now. Just kidding. I've got some old parts on it acting as masking tape. I'm gonna start painting here any minute.

There. Looks nice in red, don'tcha think? Don't ask what the color is called, though.

Here's the Cloyes double roller timing chain with the locker ready to be folded over to lock the bolts in place.

The Harland Sharp roller rockers and Elgin chromemoly pushrods are installed.

Here's a side view of one of the rockers.

I'm gonna use the FelPro One-Piece oilpan gasket. I'm test fitting it here.

The new oil pan (GM Part# 465221) is being tested for fit along with the gasket.

I FINALLY got an intake manifold. It's an Edelbrock 3701. Here it's on the motor with a new water pump and the Edelbrock TES. We're getting CLOSE!

After some debate and a short vote on the Nova mailing list, I was persuaded to paint the water pump with POR-15. Looks better than bare metal. You can also see that I didn't get the fuel pump in...next on the list.

What NOT to do. When you have an 8 inch balancer and a 6 3/4 inch timing tab, be VERY careful when you try to chisel the tab off. I went right thru the timng cover.

Now there's a nice shiny new timing cover and timing tab. It was a pain to have to remove the waterpump and oil pan, but a lot better than if it had been in the car.
