Coyote: The 63 Chevy II
Some time around the end of June, 2000 a neighbor of mine knocked on my door and asked if I wanted to buy a 63 Nova.
I said, "No thanks, I've already got one." He told me that knew that, but he had run across one that I could pick up
pretty cheap, since his credit union had just repossessed it and would sell it pretty cheap. So I went to see it.
Here's what I found:
06/26/2000. A 63 Nova 2-door hardtop. No motor, dirty gray primer finish.
There's a big old crack in the Bondo surrounding the radiused right rear wheel well. But very little rust.
Gayle's inspecting the front end while I look at the deck.
The right front tire was a little flat on the bottom and the wheel was pointing off into never-never land.
Here's why the wheels were askew. The idler arm and Pitman arm were disconnected and left hanging.
Here's the bellhousing and what appears to be a Saginaw 4-speed transmission.
I didn't think the underhood looked too bad at all. Until I got it home. More on this later.
The previous owner had put this big, ugly scoop on the hood...and chopped the underside all to hell.
It also has had the hinges removed and 4 hood pins put in the corners.
Underneath, I found a chrome center section cover, some rust, single leaf springs and slapper bars.
It has these interesting semi-lakes pipes for an exhaust system.
Inside it's not too bad. Cal Custom wheel, Hurst shifter and a missing stereo
The dash and knobs seem to be in pretty good condition.
The seats are some nondescript buckets with "Chevy Thunder" covers over them.
The back seat is in pretty good shape...except you can't see the missing speakers in the package tray.
I guess I'd be pretty dirty if I'd been sitting neglected in a parking lot for a few months.
Here it's sitting nose to nose with Moby Grape. I think they're conspiring to take all my money.
One thing that's hard to tell is that the hubs have all been converted to 5-lug patterns. This is good.
