Rufus: The end of the wiring (finally!)

(08/28/2006) The next part was the installation of a TruckStat turn signal device. It also handles the brake lights. I'm using this steering wheel as a temporary cuz it's smaller and not in the way as much as the stocker. You can also see that I rigged up a toggle switch to use as a dimmer for the headlights. There just isn't enough room for one on the floorboards.

(09/12/2006) Then I installed a horn button on the column. Don't ya just love the yellow button? I may have to paint it. How about faux rust? Just kidding. After a few tries I think I got the wire conduit about right. Close enough, anyway.

There was a large bundle of unused wires from the painless fuse panel. I didn't want to just hack 'em off because I figger that I'm gonna add things like dash lights and other luxuries eventually. So I taped off the end of each wire (a lot of 'em were hot) and wrapped the whole mess in conduit. They're coiled in the kick panel area and I'll cover 'em with a "modesty panel." (That's what we used to call the panels at the back of office desks to that evil minded office-machine repairmen [who me?] couldn't check out the legs...and other goodies...of the women operating said office machines. Ahhh...the 60s and 70s...I can't really remember 'em...it must mean I was there, right?)

(10/13/2006) There's a large bundle of wires that run between the instrument cluster and the fuse block. I wrapped that in conduit and routed it out of the way. Again, I didn't want to just hack the wires because there's a pretty good chance there will be more wiring work in Rufus's future. But it's starting to look a little cleaner. I also got the new speedometer cable installed and connected at both ends. (!) It was a lotta fun to try to fish the big end of the cable (I shoulda done it the other way around, but I always seem to find the hard way) through the small opening at the end of the channel that runs under the fuel tank. But I got it eventually.

The floorboards are going back in place. I still have to make some clearance for the speedo cable and some of the wire bundles.

This is how the fuse block and spare wire bundle fit with floorboards in place.

And a shot from the center of the cab. I love the swirly glass gearshift knob. They were popular aftermarket items when the A-bone was new. I still need to find a glass eyeball for the fuel sediment bowl. Anybody got a spare? Lend me your eyeball? Nawww...wrong quote.

(10/14/06) I finally got the floorboards screwed down. It seemed to me that I'd never get to the place where I could do that, but I finally did.

And I put a rubber floormat down on top of the floorboards. It almost seems like it has a real interior now.

What's this doing here? Well, it's one of the next things to address. This is the right rear spring shackle. It's been slightly deformed. I have new shackles, tube-type shocks and brake shoes to install in that phase.
